What is Whipper Snapper?
Image

Whippersnapper Gallery is a Toronto based youth art collective, and a hub for young talent. As an up and coming not-for-profit organization, Whippersnapper provides artists with an affordable space to showcase their work in a professional gallery setting.

The young individuals who founded Whippersnapper are practicing artists, who work diligently to maintain this community gallery. They share a passion for the arts and strongly believe in providing a venue that will allow new artists to gain experience and display their works in Toronto. Not only is Whippersnapper a gallery, but it is also a venue for artistic, cultural, and community events. Past events have included galas, lectures, musical performances, screenings, plays, readings, fashion shows, installations, and government celebrations. These happenings help to connect creative individuals from all disciplines, and provide a supportive environment for them to build relationships with both professional and emerging artists.

As Whippersnapper continues to evolve so too do the individuals and events. Whippersnapper Gallery is always open to hearing fresh new ideas, and becoming involved with people and organizations who share our passion for the arts.

Luke Correia - Damude was born in downtown Toronto in the early 80's. At a young age he began his fascination and love for music, art, food, knights and the round tables they sit at. As a boy, Luke's father fed his eyes with such movies as "the Seven Samurai" and "China Town" which ignited his aspirations to become a film maker. He Attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts where he met Patrick, Josh, Adrian and Robyn. At one point Luke thought he might try to be a successful actor but this pursuit was over powered by his passion for film and working behind the camera. In 2003 Luke was accepted into the film production program at Ryerson University. In his 4th year he was awarded the "William F. White Equipment Grant" and the "Kodak Film Stock Grant" for his thesis film, "Every Day is Music". Luke actively dabbles in photography and performance installation but most seriously pursues music. He has been involved in many different musical incarnations and presently spends his time making music with "Boys Who Say No" (http://www.myspace.com/boyswhosayno). In 2004 Patrick and Luke started the Whippersnapper Gallery. what was a long shot in their minds has become a very successful reality thanks to lots of help from friends and art lovers. As one of the founders of whippersnapper, Luke is dedicated to making the gallery meet it's ever increasing potential while sustaining the gallery's mandate and making the space an exciting, fresh, and diverse venue for young artists.
